Description |
(WSU 35-38-12 1907) The Alma Hotel in the south-end (west of 2nd Ave. and along Conconully St. south of Salmon Creek) of Okanogan, WA (State) is distinguished by its turret; other buildings/houses are in the background. Two people are standing on either side of a fence in the foreground. The hotel was built by W. R. Kahlow in 1904 and by April of that year it was operating. It was named for his daughter Alma Hansen. The original part of the structure was an old log house, constructed about 1890. There was a log building utilized as a stage coach stop there, and the hotel was built in front of it. From the Okanogan Record Newspaper, April 22, 1904: "The Hotel Alma is one of the finest public places in the county and Mr. Kahlow, the proprietor, spares no means to provide comfort for his guests. The building is new and plastered throughout and neatly furnished. Check the Okanogan Record Newspaper for possible advertisements and articles. |
