Description |
Seven men, a girl and a boy with a dog pose for this photo. It includes Jacob "Dutch" Neiderauer, Benedict Gubser, "Colonel" Adelbert M. Dewey, and Frank S. Matsura (seated at left front row. Dutch Neiderauer located the claim that eventually became the Q.S. mine (Quantum Sufficit) in the Sinlahekin Valley, on what is now Sinlahekin Wildlife Area, near what is presently known as Blue Lake. Stephen A. Barron purchased the Q.S. claim from Jacob Niederauer and began developing the mine. Later Colonel A. M. Dewey with others purchased the mine and began extensive promotion and development of the mine. The photo was taken in the Sinlahekin Valley, specifically in the location of the "Blue Lake South Campground". At the time the photo was taken "Round Lake", the southern most part of Blue Lake, and "Long Lake", the middle "lake" between Round Lake and Blue Lake, were seperate bodies of water connected by a small stream flowing northward. The photo point is located within the South Blue Lake Campground a short distance north and east Blue Lake shoreline. The direction the photo was taken is Northwest by North. The photo was taken when the Q.S. Mine Headquarters, i.e., bunkhouse, cookhouse, office, etc. were under construction, circa 1907. The photo was taken in addition to several other photos taken on or about the same day.
