Description |
The older Snow Shoe Cabin was built by Roy Beeman and Jim Dexter in the 1920s for ranching. This cabin had horizontal logs with a lean to on the south side, and was built close to the Goodenough and Snow Shoe trails junction. The cabin is still present in 2017 alongside the trail at GPS N48 57 93 W119 50 276. It is 18 x 24 feet (excluding lean to) with the short wall facing the trail and a door in the middle of it. Vertical corner posts were set to anchor the horizontal logs of the wall to with large nails instead of the more typical notching and overlay of logs. Chinking is still evident between logs of the walls. Snowshoe Camp is marked on the 1934 Metzker map in this location but without the cabin symbol although the cabin was definitely built in the 1920s according to other sources. |
